Abstract

Advancements in educational technology have created demand for digital learning materials that are not only visually engaging but also aligned with the subject matter and students' cultural context. This study aimed to develop a Canva-based e-comic module focused on short stories that integrates the values of Gurindam 12 for Grade XI students at SMK Negeri 3 Tanjungpinang. The study used the Research and Development (R&D) method based on the ten-stage Borg and Gall model. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, expert validation, tests, and documentation. The initial trial involved nine students, while the product's effectiveness was assessed using a quasi-experimental design comprising experimental and control groups. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, N-Gain calculations, and Mann–Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. The results indicated that the module achieved expert validation scores of 4.59 (content) and 4.71 (media), placing it in the "highly feasible" category. Practicality assessments yielded average scores ranging from 3.22 to 3.67, with ease of use and the e-comic's narrative flow receiving the highest ratings. Product effectiveness was demonstrated by improved learning outcomes in the experimental group—rising from an average of 58.80 to 79.20 (N-Gain: 0.50)—compared to the control group, which rose from 58.00 to 62.80 (N-Gain: 0.11). The Mann–Whitney test revealed a significant difference (p = 0.000). Thus, the Canva e-comic module is a feasible, practical, and effective alternative digital learning resource that combines multimedia-based instruction with the local cultural values of Gurindam 12 in teaching short stories.
